How to Use Instagram to Build Your Business

From the doTERRA Social Media team

Instagram is a fantastic platform for creating a branded presence for your doTERRA business. As a business builder, it is important to think about how you personally want to represent doTERRA. Using Instagram is a simple way to help others understand who you are, and why they should enroll with you. Here are some simple tips to keep in mind:

  1. Personalize your online presence

One reason people like Instagram is that it allows you to show glimpses of your life and personality in a hassle-free way. You can post a quick image and show people who you are without having to spend more time having meeting or writing a long blog post. The options for images are numerous—you could post a picture of you working out, a humorous quote, a broken plate and your grinning toddler, or a birthday celebration. These images are relatable; personalizing your online presence is all about relatability. Through your pictures, people will see how you use doTERRA into your life, and how you live your life aside from the doTERRA business.

  2. Fellowship your followers

On average, Instagram gets 10-15 times the level of engagement, (comments and likes) that Facebook does. You can make the most of this statistic by responding to comments as often as possible. Showing people you care enough about their interest to write back to them personally is a sure way to gain respect and loyalty from your followers. It is also an excellent way to get to know your audience. By clicking on their usernames you can go directly to their profiles, which will also help you understand how you can help them.

  3. Curate your content

Remember that you always want to attract the type of people you would want to do business with and the type of people you would want on your team. Additionally, you can post material that is not always doTERRA-related. People don’t want to scroll through their Instagram feed to see commercial after doTERRA commercial. Post consistently with high-quality images. The tastefulness of your images directly relates to the credibility of your brand.

  4. Integrate information

Share an image of you in barre class and talk about what oils you use afterward to help with normal muscle discomfort. Post a picture of the materials you have prepped for your next class and write about how excited you are for it. Offer a tease about prizes you are offering, or who your guest speaker will be. People love tips on how to use the essential oils so the possibilities are endless. Another option comes from a great Instagram feature called ‘Direct Message’. With ‘Direct Message’ you can send a post privately and directly to whomever you would like.

A note on hashtags:

Hashtags, represented by the # symbol, started out as a way to group information. For example, when you add #doterra to your Instagram post, your post will be included in results for the search “#doterra.” Make sure the hashtags you use are relevant to your content so that when people search a hashtag you have used, they are presented with pertinent material.

Hashtags have also become a way to add personality to a post. For example, say you have a picture of your dog on the counter eating the freshly grilled platter of salmon you just prepared. You could caption it: “Look what Sadie did tonight . . . #baddog #goodthinghescute #takeoutinstead”

You may want to limit amount of hashtags you use though. More than five hashtags tends to look like spam. Remember too, there is no reason to put in a long hashtag like: #fiveweeksdoingdiamondclubsevenstatestwentynineclasseslaterimexhausted If you want to post that much information, do it in the form of a sentence or two in your caption, and include a hashtag on the side.
